With modern technologies and various chemical based products that have been created to treat skin and hair conditions, many have lost sight of the fact that, in the past, our fore-parents relied upon and successfully used "bush- medicine" to heal and treat a plethora of symptoms. Read More
]]>Have you ever felt like your skin is drowning under grease and grime? No matter how frequently you shower, you just don't get that ultimate, fresh feeling? And to top it off, your lotion application, just doesn't seem to do anything in the department of moisturizing?
Well, I have.....
I realized that when I feel this way, it is my skin's call out for a deeper cleanse. My skin is telling me that it needs to be exfoliated. The dry skin issue just GOTTA GO!
Exfoliation is the process of using a product that typically has a coarse texture to rub against your skin to remove dead cells. The body generally sheds dead skin about every 30 days. However, there are times when shedding is not complete and so this brings about dryness, clogged pores, splitting, coarseness and other issues. Therefore, including exfoliation in your skincare regime will help address these concerns and reveal brighter, healthier looking skin.
At MalyNature, our gentle exfoliant giant, Oat My! is very popular, a best-seller, and you will learn why.
Oat My! as the name suggests is loaded with grainy bits of fine oats for that deep, yet gentle exfoliation your skin is crying out for. In addition to the oats which offer that abrasive scrub for those troubled areas, it includes butters, clay and oils that all have excellent skin benefits. I'll tell you briefly about the key ingredients in this soap, which make it such a remarkable product.
Colloidal Oatmeal
In simple terms, is oat kernels grounded to a fine powder that dissolves in water, turning it into a milky hue and leaves a silky feel to the skin. In skincare, colloidal oatmeal can remove excess oils from skin which is a benefit for those with acne concerns. It is an anti-oxidant and contains anti-inflammatory properties to help treat dry skin and remove dead skin cells. An article found on WebMD that was medically reviewed by Poonam Sachdev states that colloidal oatmeal adds a layer of protection when placed on the skin and provides relief to the skin from minor irritations. It binds to the skin, thereby locking in moisture and allowing it a chance of rehydration. It softens the skin, soothes itching and helps to balance the natural pH of the skin due to its anti-inflammatory properties. Colloidal oatmeal completes the soap by adding gentle exfoliation to remove dirt and build-up.
Shea Butter
Is that jack-of-all-trades in skincare products. It can be applied directly to the skin and is widely used in soaps, hair products, lotions and creams. Shea butter is rich in fatty acids and vitamins which make it very moisturizing, soothing, softening and hydrating. It contains substances that can reduce swelling, such as those associated with eczema.
Goat's Milk Powder
Approved by dermatologists, Goat's milk is said to work for all skin types and has moisturizing and soothing properties. It can help to repair the barriers of the skin to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and acne. Goat's Milk has a similar pH to human skin which makes it suitable for people with sensitive and irritated skin. An article from Kate Somerville, a skin health expert, states that Goat's Milk helps with certain skin conditions such as psoriasis, eczema, red, itchy skin patches and others. So if this sounds like you, you may want to give Oat My! a try. The article goes on to discuss the nutritive value of Goat's Milk and why such a gentle ingredient is such a skincare giant. If you'd like to know more about Goat's Milk in skincare, click Here.
Kaolin Clay
Pulls impurities from the skin, removes dirt, build-up and excessive oils to reduce break-outs in acne-prone skin. It is a very gentle clay and works well for those with sensitive skin.
Honey
Other than the sweetness :) honey provides great benefits in skincare. It is anti-bacterial which makes it suitable for acne-prone skin. Honey contains anti-aging properties, and is clarifying, draws moisture to the skin to reveal even skin tone.
Avocado Oil
If you thought avocados were only good for eating, well let's just say, you thought wrong! Avocado oil is used in a variety of skincare products and is loaded with vitamins and minerals that provide moisture to the skin, protect it from the elements and assists with collagen metabolism for a more radiant, youthful look.
Castor Oil
Is known for its anti-oxidant and anti-bacterial properties. It helps reduce the signs of aging, and is an excellent source of moisture retention in the skin. It is soothing for irritated and sensitive skin.
Coconut Oil
Another versatile ingredient in skincare products, coconut oil facilitates that clean, hydrated feel when you use our Oat My! soap. It has anti-bacterial properties, and may help to reduce flare-ups or inflammation from skin conditions such as acne, dermatitis and eczema.
Olive Oil
Contains anti-bacterial properties and is very moisturizing for the skin. It offers excellent hydrating and soothing properties for dry skin. It has anti-oxidant properties to help reduce the signs of aging.
Cocoa Butter
An article cited in Medical News Today, medically reviewed by Cynthia Cobb, DNP, APRN, WHNP-BC, FAANP and written by Aaron Kandola confirms that Cocoa Butter is a master ingredient in skincare as it boosts skin health, due to the polyphenol antioxidants that it contains which may help to protect against sun damage and ease inflammation. Cocoa Butter is an excellent moisturizer for the skin and may help to prevent stretch marks, such as those derived from pregnancy. On a personal note, I can attest to that! In both my pregnancies I massaged my baby bump and hips daily with Palmers Cocoa butter and never had an issue. Post second pregnancy, I noticed a bit of stretch marks on my hip, and I needed something to ease the itching of my C-section scar, so I made a cocoa butter body butter and it works like magic. The raising and itching of my scar is gone, and you would need to use a magnifying glass to spot the stretch marks on my hips. Read the full article Here.
Silk Amino Acids
In addition to the luxurious feel it offers the soap, silk is used in skincare products as it promotes skin elasticity and enhances skin complexion.
Sunflower Oil
Suitable for all skin types, Sunflower Oil soothes the skin, strengthens the skin barrier to protect against radical elements and offers excellent skin hydration benefits.
Dampen skin with warm water. Roll soap in hand to activate the lather. Apply Oat My! over damp area of body to form a full lather and exfoliate. Rinse thoroughly with warm water. Towel blot and apply your favorite skin moisturizer. MalyNature's Oats & Rice Protein Body Lotion pairs nicely with Oat My! (View it Here).
As the soap gets used, it may become more abrasive. If you find it too coarse, then form a lather using a washcloth, exfoliating glove or loofah with the soap, and apply to the skin in the same manner as previously discussed. Side note, I have used it this way for my toddler, when she developed a rash and no more than three (3) days later, they were gone. I applied the Oats and Rice Protein to her skin after her bath.
In addition to all those amazing oils, butters and additives that make up the Oat My! soap, the Vanilla Bean fragrance tops it all off as a great treat.

Best,
Kashieka
Smack 'em, Kiss 'em, Bite 'em, Plump 'em, our lips go through so much. They are exposed to harsh environmental conditions and often do not get the attention they deserve. We typically just apply our lip stick, and hope that is sufficient to mask the abuse they have endured and make us look good. If we remember, or if they start to rebel, we may add the first lip balm we can get our hands on to help us bear the discomfort of cracked, chapped lips.
But, have we considered the ingredients and the benefits of the lip products we use?
With so many options on the market and the price point, we barely stop to try and figure out what our lips really need. We buy one, use it, and if we don't like it we either just throw it out, or put it to the back of our bathroom drawer and forget about it. Speaking affirmatively from experience here! Sometimes they are forgotten in my purse or I place them in my jacket pocket from winter, they get washed in the laundry and all sorts of things. Lol! They seem to be so insignificant that if you can't find it, you don't even bother looking for it, just buy another one, right?
But what if you were to discover products that truly care for your lips? I mean products that were developed with your lip-care needs in mind, to nourish, moisturize, and repair damaged lips. Is that even something we care about in skin-care?
I know I do!
When my lips start to rebel, they become really violent, they burn, blister and bruise. I had to figure out a way to keep them happy.
And so, I went in search of a solution, did some research that led to the development of Maly's Lip Care Collection, which will be discussed in more details below. First I want to touch on some key points about lip care and its importance.
Because our lips are constantly exposed to the elements, harsh winters, hot, dry summers, and everything in between, they need some love too. In addition, lip care is important to maintain plump, youthful, wrinkle-free lips. But how can we care for these delicate babies?
During my research, I came across an article by Becky Kamowitz of the Sun and Skin News from the Skin Cancer Foundation. She listed five (5) tips for maintaining healthy, smooth, kissable lips and I will share them below:
- Exfoliate
One of the reasons we find that no matter how much lip balm/gloss we use, our lips still feel dry and chapped, is because we need to exfoliate. Exfoliation is important for removing dead skin cells. I recommend once or twice per week and preferably at night, as they can become a bit sensitive afterwards and exposure to the sun at this point might not be a good idea. In case you are wondering where to find a good lip exfoliant, check out Maly's Lip Scrub from the Lip Spa Collection. It was carefully designed to gently exfoliate your lips, while nourishing them at the same time, plus it tastes so yummy! Available in a variety of flavors so you can pick your favorite.
- Hydrate
Becky noted in her article that the reason lips tend to dry out so easily is because, unlike other parts of our body, our lips do not contain oil glands. Drinking lots of water and avoid the bad habit of licking them- yeah, I'm guilty too.. will help to combat that. Using Maly's Lip Butter from the Lip Spa Collection can help to hydrate the lips also. It is made with Grapeseed oil which is useful for nourishing and hydrating the lips.
- Protect and Moisturize
Did you know that our lips are a common spot for skin cancer? Becky mentioned that our bottom lips especially, are often overly exposed to UV Rays. Applying a sunscreen with SPF 15 or higher is recommended for lips. Continuous, unprotected exposure to harsh sunlight puts us at risk to skin conditions to include cancer. So, keeping our lips moisturized with good products and protecting them with the use of approved sunscreen, is important in our lip care regimen. Maly's Collection of lip balms are formulated with the best-quality moisturizing oils and butters your lips are sure to love.
- Reapply Frequently
So yeah, lip balm is not a one and done application. It should be within arms reach of you, ready for reapplication throughout the day. And no, "I was too busy" is not a plausible excuse. And gentlemen, you need it too! Our men tend to think that some things are not for them, but I'm here to tell you, that your lady friend would appreciate your kisses more if you took better care of your lips. So bring your lip balm to work with you, and actually use it!
- Use the Right Products
You can't go wrong with natural products. They are gentle on the skin and so effective. They often work for people who have sensitive skin, unless they are allergic to a particular ingredient that has been used. Maly's Lip Spa Collection contains natural ingredients that were researched to be nourishing and moisturizing to repair dry, chapped lips, and to maintain healthy lips. Check out our great options Here.
Have you ever had excessively dry lips, and it seems no matter what you do, how much lip balm you apply, it just won't go away? See our lips are very sensitive and are exposed to elements that often cause damage to them over time, such as harsh cold, hot temperatures and even some of the food we eat, or medication we take. To help repair the lips and prevent them from getting to a point where they are unbearable, we recommend including Maly's Lip Scrub into your regimen, at least twice per week. For best results, use at night before bed. As with any scrub, the skin may become sensitive and should be allowed to rest before exposure to beauty products and the elements.
Maly's Lip Scrub is made up of skin loving ingredients such as Macademia Nut Oil and Jojoba Oil (discussed below) that work along with the exfoliant which removes dead skin cells, to clean and condition the lips. Choose from four (4) options: Strawberry Peppermint, Cherry, Peppermint or Original (unflavored). You may also inquire about a custom flavor if you have a personal favorite that you would like to have instead.
This is a must have in your lip care regimen. The texture of Maly's Lip Butter is to die for! And a little really goes a long way. It glides on to the lips easily, leaving them feeling so soft and smooth. For best results, apply after exfoliating the lips with Maly's Lip Scrub. It is such a versatile product that it can be used as your regular lip moisturizer and even as a cuticle oil.
For your indulgence, Maly's Lip Butter is available in three (3) different flavors as well as unflavored, for those with sensitivities.
Now these are a must have for your collection. Maly's Lip Balms from our 1st release of the " I Got Dem Balm Lips" series are ultra moisturizing and nourishing. They are formulated with luxurious and exotic ingredients such as Kokum Butter and Sweet Almond Oil (discussed below), that are generally hard to find in main stream lip products. They are available in six (6) yummy flavors, such as Peppermint, Tropical Mango, Bubble Gum, Cherry, Strawberry Cream, Acai & Blueberry, as well as Original (unflavored option).
But the highlight of these delicious lip treats is not only on the lovely ingredients and delicious flavors. They are labelled with funny, quirky, cheeky quotes that make them suitable for gifts or to give you that boost you need to get through your day. Check them out Here.
Speaking of ingredients, here is a list of what can be found in Maly's Lip Spa Collection and their purpose.
-Kokum Butter
The main ingredient in our lip balms, Kokum Butter is a firm butter similar to Cocoa Butter but absorbs much faster into the skin making it super moisturizing. Kokum Butter is derived from the Kokum Tree in India, and is used for a variety of cosmetic products. Kokum butter is an exotic ingredient that is edible and often used to make food items such as chocolate. In skincare it is used to make balms, salves, makeup and lotions.
In lip care, Kokum Butter adds a luxurious, supple feel. It locks in moisture and helps to soothe irritation, such as excessive dryness that may lead to chapped, bruised, or cracked lips.
-Shea Butter
A power-house in skincare, Shea Butter is popularly known for its versatility and benefits in natural cosmetics. It is widely used in haircare products, lotions, lip care, body and face washes.
In lip care, Shea Butter is used as a healing agent for dry, chapped lips. It nourishes and smoothens lips, consists of an abundance of fatty acids which offers great moisturizing benefits.
- Lanolin
This is a yellow, tacky, waxy substance that is derived from the skin of sheep. It has a Vaseline consistency and used in a variety of skincare products including nipple cream for breastfeeding mothers.
Lanolin is very popular in lip products such as lip balms and glosses as it gives that sheen we often enjoy on our lips. Most importantly, Lanolin penetrates the lips rather than just sitting on top of them, therefore, it is extremely moisturizing and nourishing. This ingredient can make a big difference in your regimen if you suffer from severely bothersome dry lips. For this reason, we have also included it in our Lip Butter, recommended for use at night, so it can repair your lips while you sleep.
- Beeswax
We all can name at least one benefit of beeswax in cosmetics. That is because it is such an important and popular ingredient in many of the products we use on our hair and skin for many years, perhaps before some us were even born.
Beeswax in lip care holds moisture which is great for chapped lips and acts as a natural protectant from UV rays. It has anti-bacterial elements that makes it suitable for sensitive skin.
- Jojoba Oil
This is such an amazing product in skincare. It closely matches the natural sebum of our skin, which makes it perfect for all skin types and helps to heal and protect the skin from the elements. Jojoba oil is widely used in skincare products due to its anti-aging properties. It can be applied directly to the face as a night serum or mixed with other ingredients for many other uses.
Our lips are one of the most sensitive parts of the body and deserves all the care it can get. For this reason, we have included Jojoba Oil in our Lip Care Collection. Jojoba oil contains essential vitamins such as E and B, as well as Zinc and Copper which are beneficial for soft, smooth lips.
- Sweet Almond Oil
Rich in fatty acids essential for nourishing, moisturizing and revitalizing any skin type, Sweet Almond Oil is widely used in skincare products to aid in the reduction of black spots and tone the skin.
In lip care, Sweet Almond Oil is used to reduce the appearance of lines on the lips caused by dryness. It retains moisture to the lips and will leave them feeling and looking softer and healthier. I have also read where Sweet Almond Oil is used to brighten the color of lips to make them appear more pink. While I am unable to validate this claim, I believe there is some merit to it, as Sweet Almond Oil has been proven to help brighten skin complexion.
- Vitamin E
You may be using skincare products with this ingredient and not aware of it, as it often appears on ingredient lists as Tocopherol. So the next time you see that name on your favorite skincare products, you know what it is. Vitamin E is an amazing, skin loving ingredient. It is naturally occurring in a number of oils and butters used in skincare. However, formulators often include it separately due to its antioxidant properties to protect against free radicals.
Vitamin E promotes cell turnover and regeneration, so when this thick substance is used on the lips, new cells are formed at a faster rate. When used with other nourishing ingredients, Vitamin E helps to eliminate dryness and irritation of the lips.
- Grapeseed Oil
A lightweight oil derived from the by-product of wine making.
All wine lovers say, "Woot, woot!
The seeds left over from the extraction of grape juice to make wine, is then processed into the skincare gem of Grapeseed oil.
Grapeseed oil is widely used in lip care due to it's fast absorbing qualities. It melts right into the skin, moisturizes, leaving your lips with a soft, silky feel. It has antioxidant properties that protects the lips from harmful free radicals. Maly uses this ingredient in the Lip Butter to help seal in moisture to deeply repair dry, chapped lips.
- Stearic Acid
Does not sound like the traditional ingredient you are likely to find in natural skincare products, right? Well, Stearic Acid is a long chain fatty acid found in a range of plant and animal sources. For example, it is naturally occurring in Shea Butter and Cocoa Butter.
In lip-care, Stearic Acid gives a buttery, rich texture to the product. For this reason, Maly has included it in the Lip Butter, an amazing product that is designed to help repair severely chapped lips.
- Sugar
A key ingredient in Maly's Lip Scrub, Sugar is included for its amazing exfoliating benefits. It removes dead skin cells and when followed up with a moisturizing product such as Maly's Lip Butter, results in soft, silky smooth lips.
- Macademia Nut Oil
Popular in haircare products, Macademia Nut is also a personal favorite in skincare. It is rich in fatty acids that help prevent premature aging and water loss. This makes it a great ingredient for dry and sensitive skin.
Macademia Nut has been used as an ingredient in Maly's Lip Spa Collection due to its antioxidant and moisturizing properties that offers a soft, smooth feel to the lips.
- Coconut Oil
No stranger to us in the skincare world, Coconut oil is used in a variety of products and is very beneficial to the skin. It helps to reduce inflammation, repair dry skin, protects the skin from harmful bacteria and aids in wound healing.
Maly uses Coconut Oil in the Lip Spa Collection due to its known ability to brighten the lips. Its moisturizing properties are perfect for blistered, chapped lips that are damaged over time due to over exposure to the elements.
- Cera Bellina
An exotic ingredient that is a derivative of beeswax, and offers a gel-like texture in finished products that is hard to substitute with another ingredient. It is suitable for sensitive skin and offers a smooth, satin-like feeling to the skin.
It was included as an ingredient in Maly's Lip Spa Collection due to the professional, spa- quality finish and stability it offers to the products. It leaves the lips feeling so soft and nourished, and is an overall great addition to lip care products.
- LuxGlide N350
Another strange name for an ingredient to be included in natural skin-care products. Right?! LuxGlide N350 is a natural alternative to silicones and retains moisture in the skin. It offers a silky feel to the skin, and aids in the spreadability of lotions and creams when being applied..
Derived from Castor oil and Coconut oil, LuxGlide N350 is biodegradable and offers a smooth, supple feel to the lips.
Maly's Lip Spa Collection is a complete kit designed to help you take care of a sensitive part of the body that is so important but often gets neglected, our Lips! Each part of the collection is sold individually. However, for best results, consider purchasing the Trio Kit. It is a game-changer that you are sure to love.

Maly
]]>In the past few weeks, I have watched my social media grow by the hundreds. My Instagram following alone, is now over 1000! And it has been exciting and intimidating all at the same time. Why intimidating? Well, you see, before officially starting my business, Maly in June 2020, I had social media accounts, however, I wouldn't really say I had a social media presence. I would spend a few minutes each day just scrolling through feeds, admiring my friends' glamorous pictures and laughing at the random jokes I'd come across. Once in a while I would post a picture of myself and my family. I have always maintained a very private life, and avoided sharing my personal affairs for the likes of social media.
Then, I decided to start a business. Hmmm, how are people going to know about Maly? We are on lockdown, so markets are closed, and every other face-to- face selling opportunity is either non-existent or limited due to CoVID's invasion. The only and best option was, of course, to immerse myself in the amazing world of social media. I must admit, I created my Facebook business page and was posting there and gaining follows long before I started posting about my business on my personal page. This is simply because sometimes it is easier to share a new phenomenon with strangers than to people you know. I wanted to wait until I had properly tested the market, and was sure that I was going to pursue this business concept before going fully public.
After being invited to talk about my business by Matt from Keepin' it Real YYC on Facebook, I decided it was time to share with my personal page and the reception was great. Naturally, I was met with surprise reactions and I had to go down the road of explaining that I wanted to get things to a certain level before sharing. When my Facebook following started to grow after posting that video, I soon realized that for me to get the word out about my business, I needed to become far more engaging and put myself out there more.
I decided to push myself, and do an introductory video. Afterall, if people are following my journey, the least I could do was properly introduce myself, right? Besides, talking about myself could not be THAT difficult. So, I sat down and started to record..... Guys! I had no idea that talking about myself could be THAT hard! I must have recorded the video 20 times before I decided that I was done, and would post it flaws and all! Here's the link, incase you missed it.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ljOdnM1kM4
I most recently did a LIVE interview with the beautiful Natasha B Russell on her show that is aired every Monday on Instagram and Facebook. She is a brilliant Life and Business Coach and boasts other accolades. You should definitely check her out, she is very inspiring and so easy to engage with.
Let me stop here for a minute and elaborate on why this LIVE was a big deal for me. Earlier I mentioned the challenge I had with completing a recorded video simply to talk about myself. Now, I have crossed another major hurdle of doing a LIVE interview, unedited, plain and simple me! I did that! That is wild! and you know what, I felt so liberated when it was done- I was truly proud of myself for taking that step, kicking the anxiety out the window, and just be my true self.
I think I am now ready to start being face forward on all my social media accounts. LOL! Maybe eventually, baby steps for now.
Anyhow, I still haven't introduced myself yet, isn't that what this blog is about? LOL!
Ok, here goes.
My name is Kashieka Malcolm. I was born and raised on the beautiful island of Jamaica. I attended the St. Andrew High School for Girls and later completed tertiary education at the Northern Caribbean University where I obtained a Bachelors Degree in Hospitality and Tourism Management. I moved to Canada in 2014 after my husband (common-law partner at the time) moved to Saskatchewan and convinced me to come too by spewing out lies that it was just as warm as Jamaica. LOL! I'm joking, he actually warned me that it wasn't. A year later, I decided I was having too much fun in Saskatchewan and needed to slow down a bit, so we decided to move to Calgary instead.
Jokes again, ok I'll stop!
While in Saskatchewan, I had the pleasure of working in one of the largest spas and it reignited my love for skin and self-care. In search of greater opportunities we came to Calgary, pregnant and all.
I am the mother of two (2) of the most adorable princesses to ever walk this earth and wife to one of the handiest and smartest men on this planet. Prior to Covid-19, I managed a large department of up to 35 people (depending on the season) within a hotel for 2 years. During the pandemic last year, I gave birth to our second child. So now, I am raising a family, managing a home and running a new business.
Can you say, BUSY?! Yes, very much so :)
My love and interest for skincare and spa really started at a young age. I remember as a teenager, I would always be mixing concoctions for hair and skin. As I became an adult, I would still make some products for personal use, and every chance I had to buy natural skincare products, I would indulge.
I enjoy dancing and listening to music. I love reading, however, I seldom have time for that nowadays, so I enjoy it through my daughters' story books that we read before putting them to bed. I enjoy baking, though I cannot stand the clean up process- it drives me nuts! I love spending time with my family whether playing games or relaxing and watching a movie, going for a walk, errands or just a drive out.
Maly is a small business that offers handcrafted bath and body products using natural or naturally derived, wholesome ingredients, geared toward encouraging relaxation and self-care at home with our spa-like products. We source high-quality ingredients, and incorporate them in our formulas based on their known benefits to the skin. We are a cosmetics based business and do not make any claims that our products can heal or correct any underlying skin concerns. However, the ingredients that we use offer certain benefits in skin-care that with continuous use, and proper diet, one may see quality results. I know I have.
In March 2020, during the heart of the pandemic, schools were required to go on lockdown as per orders by the government. My daughter was in day-care and with no one around for her to stay with, as we do not have family members here, I was required to stay home with her. In addition, I was pregnant, and dubbed high-risk. Initially, with all the scariness and uncertainties, I started to become worried and often stressed out, perhaps elevated by hormones, about what the future would bring. It became apparent that I needed an outlet, a space where I could forget about it all and just do something I enjoy. I started making soap, and it was a real stress reliever for me. I gave away my first few batches and realized that people were interested in the soap I made. I was starting to get positive comments about my products and it fueled my interest in making cosmetic products as a business, since I had to pause my travel agency due to obvious reasons.
In addition to needing a creative outlet to relieve stress, I started this business as I have a passion for skincare and spa. So much that if I don't sell any of my products, I would still continue making them because I absolutely love what I do. I love the whole process from formulating my recipes to testing the end result. I love the research that is involved and even the frustrating times when I have to go back to the drawing board because something just didn't turn out the way I was expecting.
I started this business to share a part of me with others, my love for crafting and making things that are useful and beneficial to our well-being. I want people to remember to pause and take care of themselves so that they are better equipped to care for others. Relaxation and self-care are important, and that is what my products target.
Wow! Tricky question.
Can I say all of them? I mean, each product I make is formulated and handcrafted or poured with such care and love that it is so hard for me to choose.
Anyhow, I will just highlight a few and the reason:
Maly's Whipped Body Butters are truly special. They are formulated to be non-greasy, unlike the traditional form of body butters where oils and butters are whipped together to form a fluffy texture. Maly's Body Butters are loaded with high-quality, luxurious oils and we have included water amongst other important ingredients. Why water? Well, when skin is dry and in need of moisturization, it is thirsty. To properly correct that, you need water to more efficiently carry the oils through the pores of the skin. It is needed to enhance the "spreadability" of the product. So whereas a body butter made with only oils and butters stand on the surface of the skin for a while and has a greasy feel, ours melt into the skin and deeply nourishes, leaving you feeling soft and well moisturized. Now, the traditional body butter has its place in skincare, don't get me wrong. However, I find that Maly's formula works best for my extremely dry skin, and it has worked so well for me that I decided to have that set us apart from other makers.

One of the newest collections to our line of products, and makes me ask myself, what took us so long? Well, nothing happens before the time, right? Our Bath Soak Salts are amazing. I formulated this product based on different things that my family enjoys when we take a bath. My 4 year old loves bubbles and frankly, so does me and my husband. Who doesn't?! My husband's job is very physical, so he often comes home with muscle aches and pain. A nice hot soak with Epsom Salts usually helps. And then there's me, who loves to add a bit of fancy, with my spa background and all, I couldn't help myself but to add other luxurious salts and throw in a combination of florals to make bath teas. It is well worth a try.
This is my one and go exfoliant. Literally, this thing makes the process so simple. I just apply it in the shower, wash it off and I am done. I use it to scrub my feet when doing a pedicure also.
This spa-quality sugar scrub is not just oil and sugar, it also lathers, which removes the need to use soap or body wash. So it cleanses, exfoliates and moisturizes all in one! Seal the deal at the end of your shower with some of Maly's Whipped Body Butter and you have transformed yourself into a supple, silky goddess! I sure feel like one at the end of my shower. Use it once or twice a week for best results.
Maybe in another blog I will talk about some more of my favorites. But, I do recommend you try those. I can almost guarantee you will fall in love with them.
So there you have it!

]]>Growing up in a small community in the parish of St. Andrew, Jamaica, there were many traditions that I came to love and still live by today. I truly believe that sometimes less is more. In this context I mean, my brothers and I were raised in a humble setting, we didn't have much, but we were rich in love for life, for each other, for the little we had, and out of that little, the amount we were able to share with our other friends in the community. Many traditions were passed on to us from our parents, but with the friends we grew up around, we developed many more of our own. From climbing trees and picking fresh fruits, playing traditional games such as dandy shandy, jump-rope and others in our dirt yard, to finding ourselves in church on the weekend, whether Saturday or Sunday.
But the traditions I want to focus on in this blog, are those that have essentially paved the way for me to be on this journey today, which is formulating my own line of skincare products.
As a kid, I lived the tradition of what I like to call "Sunday Best"- a routine that predominantly occurred on Sundays. Sundays were classified as "hair day". My mom would spend hours washing, steaming, deep conditioning and then styling my hair, so that I would be set for school in the week ahead. We would have our baths earlier on a Sunday and don our Sunday Best; meaning we'd dress up in nicer clothes. The best meals were cooked on a Sunday, and everyone would gather at the table or in the living room to eat, and watch Sunday matinee. Our home was cleaned from top to bottom, as we move to the tunes of Beres Hammond, Bob Marley, Traditional gospel music and a host of other hits from musical pioneers, also deemed as Sunday Best.
During my teenage years, I also maintained some of those skincare and beauty traditions, where I started to formulate my own concoctions of skincare remedies such as my famous Cornmeal and Aloe face mask- LOL!, and my Aloe Vera with Eggs and a variety of oils deep conditioner that I would use to steam my hair with a shower cap. I had no idea I was setting myself up for my passion business.
Fast forward to today, what do I do? Well, let's just say, on a personal level I carry on those traditions with my own kids. My girls get the best hair wash on a Sunday, which involves the whole deep condition process, they shower early, my house gets an overall clean, we cook the best meals, dress up and go for ice- cream (my eldest daughter's every Sunday request).
For myself, one of the main things I do on a Sunday, is step into self-care mode. I am accustomed to that, right? Why stop now? I may steam my hair, exfoliate, soak, change nail polish colors and just bask in relaxation and tradition.
But what are my favorite products to use during this process of skincare Sunday best traditions. I will list a few here:
1. MalyNature's Mango and Coffee Sugar Scrub
By far, this is my favorite body scrub. This spa-quality emulsified sugar and coffee scrub is moisturizing, and exfoliating all at once. It can literally be used on its own in the shower, as it also lathers. The sugar is a gentle exfoliant, and you get a bit more of abrasion from the coffee grounds that have been added. I even love using it as an exfoliant for my feet when doing a foot soak and pedicure. Leaves my feet so soft and nourished. I mean what more could one ask for?!
2. MalyNature's Whipped Body Butters
After exfoliating, I always enjoy a thicker moisturizer to really get into my skin, soften and seal in moisture. MalyNature's body butters do just that! They are non-greasy and include luxurious oils, butters and additives to create a rich and thick moisturizer that I promise your skin will love. There are five (5) types, so you have options based on your needs. Check them out here.
These fizzy, foamy spheres of goodness, offer the ultimate soak and relaxation experience. They are made with beautiful fragrances that fill your whole bathroom, and the ingredients used gives the water a silky feel and leave my skin feeling so soft and hydrated. My four (4) year old absolutely loves them, and if allowed, would soak with a bath bomb every single day!

]]>In my culture and ethnic group, we talk a lot about and use Carrot and Turmeric in a number of ways. As a matter of fact, I can almost guarantee that if you visit any Caribbean folk's home, and check their pantry or refrigerator, you will find Turmeric and Carrot there, unless they ran out and need to visit the grocery store. From the finger licking good Curried Goat with a side of Roti, to the refreshing drink of Carrot punch, amped up with Dragon Stout, and all the various ways these versatile gems can be incorporated in our skin care regimen- make them worth talking about and give them a front seat in the golden foods popularity awards... Hmm, I wish that was a thing.
So, since there isn't such a thing as the "golden foods popularity awards", as good as it sounds, I have decided to honor them, in my own way, by telling you about a soap I created, using my very own formula, that makes good use of these two awardees in the form of my Turmeric Carrot Soap scented in Tea Tree and Orange 5 Fold essential oils.
Our Turmeric Carrot Soap isn't just any old soap that you merely use for cleansing the skin, wash off, towel dry and go! We have carefully formulated it to be cleansing, yes- that is the main purpose of any soap. However, we have designed this product to nourish, hydrate and leave your skin feeling refreshed and renewed. In addition, turmeric and carrot powders, as the feature ingredients in this soap bar, are known to have skin-toning and brightening properties. They are rich in Vitamin C, which helps to remove dark spots from the skin. I'll discuss each of these items separately, so they have their own minute of shine!
Bright yellow/orange in color, turmeric is a flowering plant from the ginger family. The root is the power ingredient that is often grounded and used for cooking, skincare, and otherwise processed for medicinal use. To stay on topic, we will focus on turmeric in skincare, best fitted for this blog.
Turmeric is used in skincare due to its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. If you follow my blogs, you will see these two terms used often. This is because they are so important in the maintenance of healthy skin. They work to reduce skin irritant issues, balance the pH in the skin to reveal a healthier, more vibrant and youthful appearance. So, because turmeric contains these benefits, it is used in skincare products to address issues related to acne, eczema, dermatitis, psoriasis and so much more. One of the key features of turmeric is its known benefit to remove dark spots, brighten and even skin-tone.
Some applications that turmeric is commonly used in includes:
- Soap
- Face Masks
- Face and Body Scrubs
- Face Creams
- Body Butters
Turmeric has been used topically to heal wounds more quickly, again because it decreases inflammation and oxidation. It also reduces the appearance of scarring.
Now before you go off dosing turmeric on your skin, be mindful that when used directly on the skin, turmeric may leave a temporary stain. For this reason, most products containing turmeric, such as some face masks, are better used as night treatment, so it can be washed off in the morning before you need to go out. This is not the case for all products, however. For example, our Turmeric and Carrot soap will not stain the skin, and can be used for both face and body.
Also, when applied directly to the skin, turmeric may cause skin irritation, redness and swelling. This is usually for those who have sensitivities or are allergic to it. Therefore, it is best to use it in properly formulated products, such as Maly's Turmeric Carrot Soap, rather than trying to use it raw on the skin.
Growing up, we were always encouraged to eat lots of carrots for better vision and healthier looking skin. This is attributed to the beta-carotene content that is found in carrots. What is beta- carotene?
Beta-carotene is a red-orange pigment found in some plants, fruits and bright colored vegetables. The body converts carotene in to Vitamin A (retinol) which is important for healthy skin, our immune system and good vision. In addition to the carotene content, carrots are also a good source of antioxidants and Vitamin C which result in radiant, glowing skin.
We all want that, right? So next time you go grocery shopping, grab a bag of carrots!
Carrot powder, in skin care products, act as an excellent source of moisturization for the skin. It helps to balance out oiliness, remove toxins and dead skin cells, to reveal fresh, healthier looking skin. It may also help to clear sun tan and protect the skin from UV ray damage. One aspect I think you will love, is that carrot powder can help to prevent early signs of ageing due its rich Vitamin C content that produces collagen and smoothens creases, dark spots and wrinkles.
Some applications that carrot powder is commonly used in includes:
- Soap
- Body Wash
- Face Wash
- Face Creams
- Lotions
- Face Masks
- Face and Body Scrubs
Carrot powder is a gentle ingredient which is not typically a skin irritant unless you are allergic or have sensitivities to it.
Now that we have explored the key ingredients on their own, let's take a look at the benefits of some of the other amazing ingredients that have been used in the formulation of our amazing Turmeric Carrot Soap.
Originated in Brazil, the oil is made from the seeds of the Babassu palm tree. It is ethically sourced and processed by locals. It is very soft and silky to the touch, solid at room temperature but absorbs quickly upon contact with the skin. It is very similar to coconut oil, however, I find it to be more nourishing and far less greasy. Babassu oil has a number of benefits in skincare products. It is rich in antioxidants that are known to fight against free radicals that can potentially damage the skin. The fatty acids in Babassu oil, make it a lovely moisturizer for both face and body. It will not cause build up that clogs pores, so it is great for acne prone skin.
Hemp Seed Oil
In Jamaica, our fore-parents used one strain of cannabis that we call "Ganja" in our native dialect. They used it for literally everything. It was used to make tea, placed in baked products, set to cure for months and used for muscular pain and skin issues, smoked- LOL!
Like Ganja, Hemp Seed oil has a number of benefits, and is widely used in skincare. It is derived from the seeds of the hemp plant. We have added it to our Turmeric Carrot Soap because it works well for most skin types and moisturizes without clogging pores. I add it to a face cream that I made for my husband who has oily skin and prone to acne, and he loves that he no longer has break out issues. This can be attributed to the fact that Hemp Seed oil is known to regulate the skin's oil production and balance out oily skin. Hemp Seed Oil is used to soothe skin irritations and flare ups such as eczema and psoriasis.
Sweet Almond Oil
This is one of my favorite oils. It is used in a variety of our skincare products. But what does Sweet Almond Oil really bring to the table? Why have we added it to the Turmeric Carrot Soap?
Sweet Almond oil consists of Omega-3 fatty acids which help prevent premature aging and damage brought on by the sun's harmful rays. It is often used for evening skin tone, and its Zinc content helps to heal acne and other bodily scars.
It also has Vitamin A (retinol) that helps with the production of new skin cells, and decreasing fine lines. I must also mention that it is rich in Vitamin E, a staple in skincare products. Vitamin E is an antioxidant that helps to prevent cell damage.
Sweet Almond oil is often used to reduce puffiness and dark spots around the eyes. It may also improve acne prone skin by controlling excessive oil build-up. It is an excellent moisturizer for dry skin, and soothe conditions related to eczema and psoriasis.
In addition to all the aforementioned benefits, we use Sweet Almond oil in our Turmeric Carrot Soap because it is known to improve skin complexion and as mentioned before, even skin tone. As a bonus, Sweet Almond oil can help lighten the appearance of stretch marks.
Whew! Do you see why we love this oil? And the list of benefits has not even been exhausted!
It is literally good for soooo many things.
Aloe Vera
If I could use Aloe Vera in everything, I really would. LOL!! I just love it so much. I guess I had no choice. I remember growing up, as a kid, my mom would blend Aloe Vera with orange juice for our weekly cleanse routine. Horrible to the taste, but she would always remind me of how good it was for the skin. And you know what, I guess I believe her now, because when I reflect, I never really had break out issues until I became an adult and decided I was now grown and did not need to keep up with such a distasteful habit.
But now, here I am, singing its praises!
Really though, Aloe Vera is a must in skincare. Incorporating it in your regimen will yield only positive results. For this reason, we decided to add Aloe Vera to our formula when creating our Turmeric Carrot Soap. Aloe Vera offers hydrating properties and is used to soothe skin irritations related to sunburns, as well as flare ups from eczema, acne, dermatitis, psoriasis and more.
Aloe Vera also includes Vitamins A and C. Do you see a pattern with the ingredients we have used?
It is also used to clarify the skin and remove dark spots as well as acne scars. Aloe Vera works well on sensitive skin and is suitable for all skin types. It helps reduce the signs of early ageing and repair skin cells to reveal your super glow!
Tea Tree Essential Oil
In addition to being used for fragrance in our Turmeric and Carrot Soap, tea tree offers its own share of benefits to this soap. Tea Tree essential oil helps to calm inflamed, irritated skin due to its antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties. It is thought to aid with the prevention and removal or acne scars, remove dark spot for youthful looking skin.
Orange 5 Fold Essential Oil
Orange essential oil , is rich in Vitamin C. In addition to offering a beautiful scent to the Turmeric and Carrot Soap, it was included due to its known benefits to the skin.
Orange essential oil is useful for the maintenance of healthy skin. It clarifies, hydrates and smoothens by reducing the appearance of wrinkles, acne and other skin concerns. It is very beneficial for improving texture to reveal beautiful, radiant skin!
Shea Butter
Is that jack-of-all-trades in skincare products. It can be applied directly to the skin and is widely used in soaps, hair products, lotions and creams. Shea butter is rich in fatty acids and vitamins which make it very moisturizing, soothing, softening and hydrating.
Mango Butter
Is known for its anti-inflammatory properties. It soothes itchiness and dryness often associated with eczema and dermatitis. It contains fatty acids that soothe and softens the skin and the Vitamin C content in Mango Butter, helps to reduce signs of aging.
Kaolin Clay
Draws impurities from the skin, removes dirt, build-up and excessive oils to reduce break-outs in acne-prone skin. It is a very gentle clay and works well for those with sensitive skin.
Castor Oil
Is known for its anti-oxidant and anti-bacterial properties. It helps reduce the signs of aging, and is an excellent source of moisture retention in the skin. It is soothing for irritated and sensitive skin.
Olive Oil
Contains anti-bacterial properties and is very moisturizing for the skin. It offers excellent hydrating and soothing properties for dry skin. It has anti-oxidant properties to help reduce the signs of aging.
Dampen skin with warm water. Roll soap in hand to activate the lather. Apply bar soap over damp area of body. You may also use a washcloth or loofah to form a full lather. Rinse thoroughly with warm water. Towel blot and apply your favorite skin moisturizer. For best result, try one of Maly's Whipped Body Butters. They are perfect to soothe and seal in moisture to skin for a supple, hydrated feel. Click Here to view our collection.
Maly's Turmeric Carrot Soap consists of amazing oils, butters and additives that all work together to offer great benefits to the skin. The custom fragrance blend of Tea Tree and Orange 5 Fold essential oils, serve a dual purpose and seals the deal with this great product.

Elegance, romance, gift, classic and luxury. Those words come to mind when I think of Roses. My husband knows I'm a sucker for roses, so occasionally he would surprise me with a bunch that I would work desperately to keep alive. Heartbroken each time they'd decide after a week or so, I was not the caretaker they wished to have, sparing my feelings by not inciting I was a lousy one.
I would not give up on my green thumb though. In fact, I managed to convince my husband that having a few rose plants in our garden would be a more economical way for me to get the most out of these complicated but beautiful flowers. So now we patiently wait for spring, to see if they will come alive once this winter period blows over.
Other than to decorate my front yard with dreamy colors of red, white, pink and others and to smell the sweet aroma of fresh roses as you walk up to my front door, the other reason I eagerly anticipate the spring and summer, is so I can have the benefit of incorporating the flowers in my skincare ideas.
Speaking of skincare, did you know that for centuries, roses have been used in various health and skincare applications? Have you ever considered the benefits of these gorgeous flowers to the body? Well, I will break it down briefly for you, so you can also understand why I was so inspired to develop our Rose Collection line of products.
Rose in skincare, is known for its anti-inflammatory, anti-aging and astringent properties which helps fight against acne It has a variety of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. When used in oil form, it works well at relieving dry skin. Our Sweet Rose and Vitamin E whipped body butter and our Rose & Clay soap includes rose-infused oil to help moisturize and soothe dry, itchy skin.
When infused or distilled in water, in the form of what we call Rosewater, it can help with pH balance of the skin and control oiliness. Rosewater with it's anti-inflammatory properties if beneficial for the treatment of scars, cuts and wounds. It can help reduce redness associated with skin conditions such as rosacea and dermatitis.
For this collection, rose has been included one way or another to highlight it's benefits and beauty. Take a look at the products that form Maly's Rose Collection.
Our Vanilla + Rose Lotion Bars are nicely decorated with dried roses. They are thoughtfully created with limited packaging in mind. They are perfect for keeping in your purse for use on those troubled spots, such as knees, heels and elbows. Also, if you use a lot of drying hand sanitizers and soaps. then just roll the lotion bar in your hand and feel it gently melt into your skin as you apply it.
For me, it is addictive to the smell. I can often be found just holding mine up to my nose and taking a whiff of the spicy aroma of vanilla, mixed with the floral scent of dried roses and the rose bouquet fragrance, as well as the natural cocoa butter that has been incorporated in this formulation. Can you tell this is one of my favorite products?
These foamy, fizzy bath treats are beautiful, and smells so good. They are a light pink color (shades may vary) with a heart gem that gives them such an elegant look. They are scented in one of my favorite fragrance combination- Rose Jam and Rose Bouquet. So, it is a warm floral, yet fruity scent and very delightful. As the Sweet Rose bath bomb floats around the tub, it will release the rosy fragrance that fills your bathroom, and color your water a lovely shade of rose pink.
But even more noteworthy, our Sweet Rose bath bomb is made with ingredients that make for a soothing bath experience. Your bath water will feel luxurious, and your skin will feel soft, and nourished at the end of your soak. Thinking about trying it? Click here.
One of my favorite things to make in cosmetics is soap. There are different techniques to making soap but the cold process method is by far my favorite. It allows me to formulate my own recipe and I can be as creative as I want with design. In addition, cold process soaps, once properly cured, are very nourishing and moisturizing to the skin, if the right ingredients are used. I am very particular about my proportion of ingredients to achieve a solid, yet hydrating soap each time that offers a good balance of cleansing without drying out the skin. I have super dry skin, so I know the importance of using products that are rich in moisturizing content.
Our Rose & Clay soap uses my favorite recipe and includes skin-loving ingredients such as Cocoa and Shea butters, luxurious oils, rose-infused oil and silk amino acids. Silk offers a soft, luxurious, silky feel to the soap. It is known to draw moisture to the skin, so it is perfect if you are plagued with dryness, especially in the harsh winter months. It includes French Pink Clay which is known to detoxify, and deeply cleanse the skin thereby removing dead skin cells and overtime reveal a more refreshed appearance. We've also included Activated Charcoal which is an exfoliant and attracts impurities with somewhat of a magnet effect. The end result is a smooth, even-toned and radiant skin.
This soap is scented in Rose bouquet and Vanilla. However, the vanilla notes are more pronounced. It is topped with pink Himalayan salt for interest, but also has its share of skin benefits. It is an exfoliant, detoxifies the skin and makes for a soothing, relaxing bath when used in larger proportions, amongst other things. Get it here.
For as long as I can remember, I have been a big fan of whipped body butter. However, I have always been very cautious when buying it as due to the high content of butters and oils, some tend to be quite greasy. I know a lot of people shy away from them for this same reason. But it doesn't have to be this way, and I learned that by choosing the right combination of butters and oils at the right percentages, one can achieve a decent body butter. On the contrary, if you are looking for a better than decent body butter, then you are at the right place.
Maly's whipped body butters are specially formulated to melt into the skin upon contact, offer a rich, luxurious, silky feel and most importantly, nourishes and moisturizes the skin. Our non-greasy formula makes our body butters suitable for all skin types.
But, what is the big deal about the Sweet Rose and Vitamin E whipped body butter?
Well, to commence, it consists of rose-infused oil. A rare treasure you are not likely to readily find at the regular cosmetics shop or supermarket. In addition, luxurious oils and butters are incorporated in the mixture such as Babassu oil and Mango butter. Babassu oil is similar to coconut oil, however, it is softer and absorbs faster upon contact with the skin. It is very moisturizing and does not clog pores so very useful for acne prone skin. Check out my previous blog post for more details on Babassu oil and Mango butter to learn more about our other whipped body butters here.
Maly's Sweet Rose whipped body butter is also infused with vitamin E, a well known staple in skincare products. It is predominantly known for its anti-oxidant and skin restorative properties.
The body butter is scented in our special and new favorite Rose Jam fragrance, and to make it more interesting, we've added a small amount of eco-glitter because, why not?! Get yours here.
Let's switch over to home decor.
In addition to the bath and body products in this Rose Collection, we want to help you set the ambience for a relaxing experience by adding our Sweet Roses wax melt, paired with a warmer and we even throw in a tealight candle. So all you really need is a lighter or matches and you are set for some at home spa time.
Our wax melts are all made using natural bees and soy waxes, for a clean fragrance in your home. Sweet Roses wax melt is elegantly scented in Rose Bouquet and Vanilla fragrances. It is beautifully decorated with dried rose petals; so talk about setting the mood and ambience. How romantic! With Valentine's Day just around the corner, you will want to have this in your collection. It is easy to use, just break off a bar, place it on top of the wax warmer, light the tealight candle and place it at the bottom and voila. Enjoy!
Maly's inspiration for the Rose Collection came about due to my love for roses, what it represents during the Valentine's season and also the skin benefits that roses are known to have. We have designed this collection to cater to your total relaxation and in-home luxury spa experience.

Winter is fast approaching, and I don't know about you but as soon as Fall began, my skin just went straight into dry, itchy mode. My back and feet felt cracked, it hurt! and my hands looked like I work with cement. Hope you got the visual.
Anyhow, a girl had to do something about all that mess, and fortunately for me, I knew exactly what I needed. You guessed right! Hydration, Moisture, Nourishment and a nice, soft, thick body butter to just melt in my skin and take all the dryness and discomfort away.
Because I'm not selfish, I decided to share the wealth and make more of these products for others who may be struggling with similar issues, and as a result, the Maly line of Body Butters was born.
We have four (4) different options and the good thing is, they are all infused with Vitamin E, which is a staple in the cosmetics industry. It has anti-oxidant properties, which means it helps provide a barrier for the skin to protect it from damage that may be caused by sun or air pollutants. It also hydrates, moisturizes, heals and soothes skin irritations. If you have ever tried to read a label on your skincare product, you may notice the term "tocopherol", that is your Vitamin E. So now you know.
We are so excited to add this to our list of products, we decided to feature them this week! And they are already flying off the shelves.
So although, we have four (4) types listed on our website, we have taken custom orders on these gems. We've made nourishing Hand Butters and soothing Feet Cream for customers who have been raving about how awesome these products are. Ok, let's get into it:
When I think of Aloe Vera, I always imagine going outside on a very rainy day and getting drenched from head to toe, sticking my tongue out and have a taste of that fresh, rain water. Yes, I know I'm weird! and I also know the taste of Aloe Vera is anything but delightful. My mom used to have us do our regular purge with Aloe Vera and orange juice, Yuck!
Perhaps the reason I get this feeling from Aloe Vera is because in skincare products, it is super hydrating. If you have skin that, no matter what you use you just cannot seem to shake that dry feeling, then a product containing Aloe Vera may just be what you need.
Aloe Vera has soothing and anti-inflammatory properties which makes it great for use on burns, acne, and chapped, cracked skin. It contains vitamins A and C which are known for their anti-aging, skin brightening and anti-oxidant properties. So yes, that is why I love Aloe Vera.
So here's the thing! Not so fun fact about me- I had an emergency C section with my second child. I always get dragged down an unpleasant memory lane when I think about that traumatizing experience. The fact that I am able to discuss it in this forum, is growth for me. Anyhow, my scar would itch so bad. I mean, grab an object and rub it profusely, type itch (never did that though).
To combat that I went into my products closet, and started grabbing items that I thought could help, and went to town, making my ultimate Cocoa Body Butter. To top it off, I added Chocolate fragrance, because a girl needs some of that in her life. If she's not eating it, she may as well indulge in other ways and I chose skincare.
Back to my scar and the body butter I made. Cocoa Butter is high in fatty acids which allows it to form a protective barrier over the skin and lock in moisture. It hydrates, nourishes and provides elasticity in the skin, all of which I needed to sooth the itch. Cocoa Butter is known to smooth scars, wrinkles and other marks on the skin. Women, including me, often use it pre and post pregnancy to minimize the appearance of stretch marks.
Cocoa Butter is also good for use on skin conditions such as eczema and dermatitis. It is said to be useful for skin damage associated with pre-mature aging, In my culture, it is thought to even skin tone to reveal brighter, more youthful skin.
Maly's Whipped Cocoa Body Butter is a derivative of the one I made for myself and has all the same wonderful benefits.
This is becoming one of my favorite skincare products. It has so many benefits and it just melts right into the skin without leaving a greasy feeling on the surface. It is excellent for soothing inflammation and itching of dry skin. It is most often used for the treatment of skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis, amongst others.
Vitamin C in Mango Butter acts as an anti-oxidant to remove free radicals that create issues in the skin such as wrinkles. It produces collagen which is a key protein that firms the skin, presenting a wrinkle-free appearance. It is a perfect solution for people with acne-prone skin for hydration.
Before I started making skincare products, I had no idea that coffee had so many benefits, and especially to the skin. Please understand I am not a big coffee drinker and frankly, before now, never cared to know much about it.
If you've never come into contact with this luxury ingredient, it is a combination of vegetable and coffee oils. It is a very moisturizing and nourishing, soft textured butter that just glides over the skin and makes it silky smooth, and you sure smell that fresh coffee aroma coming out of it. But not to worry, if you don't want to walk around smelling like coffee spilled all over you everyday, our Coffee and Vitamin E Body Butter has been beautifully fragranced with a spicey and floral scent combination in the form of Vanilla and Yuzu to make it a far more pleasant smelling body treat.
Maly's Whipped Body Butters all have a few staple ingredients that form the basis of the product line. I will briefly touch on them and their benefits to skin.
Shea Butter
Think about that popular kid in school that everyone knew and most people loved or wanted to be in his/her circle. That person would be the Shea Butter of school. Lol! I know my analogy is cheesy. The point is, Shea Butter is widely used in the making of cosmetic products. It is rich in fatty acids and vitamins which speak to its moisturizing properties and its ability to soften the skin. Shea Butter soothes the skin and when used in facial products, assists in toning the skin.
Babassu Oil
This is by far one of my favorite oils to work with. Similar to coconut oil, Babassu oil is softer and adds a silky, luxurious feel to the skin. Its lightweight texture allows it to absorb easily into the skin without leaving a greasy feel. Babassu is native to Brazil. Its trees are grown wild in the forests and the nuts are gathered by local women where the oil is harvested. It is unscented, unlike coconut oil, which makes it a perfect alternative for those with highly sensitive noses. Babassu oil has anti-oxidant properties and is known to soothe skin concerns such as acne, eczema and psoriasis.
Grapeseed Oil
Forgive my ignorance, but I must admit that I knew nothing about Grapeseed oil until I started researching skin care ingredients. I stumbled across this one, decided to give it a try in my body butters and I absolutely love it. It is a very lightweight oil which absorbs easily into the skin without leaving a greasy film. Grapeseed oil is a byproduct of the process of making wine, no wonder it is so delightful. It contains vitamin E and helps the skin retain its own vitamin C and E content. Therefore, it boasts the ability to seal in moisture and even skin tone with consistent use.
Jojoba Oil
This is really a form of wax that mimics the skin's natural sebum (oil your skin naturally makes). It is very hydrating and moisturizing without leaving a greasy feel on the skin. Jojoba oil is rich in Vitamin E and anti-oxidants which makes it suitable for healing and soothing irritated skin.
Beeswax
Adds firmness to the body butter, but more importantly, it has anti-inflammatory properties that helps with the healing of wounds. It is loaded with vitamin A which supports cell reconstruction. Beeswax locks in moisture to the skin and fights against dryness, so the skin remains hydrated. If you suffer from eczema, beeswax can be used to soothe itchiness associated with same.
Maly's Whipped Body Butters are best used on damp skin. The butter glides on more smoothly as it mixes with the dampness of the skin to moisturize and hydrate. They are perfect for stubborn areas such as elbows and heels that are often more dry, but nourishes other parts of the body well. I like using mine as soon as I get out of the shower to moisturize my back and neck, which I find are often dry and itchy during the colder months.
For the feet, I encourage using Maly's Whipped Body Butters at night and placing socks on overnight. In the morning, your feet should be softer and more moisturized.
Maly's Whipped Body Butters are not just any old body butter. They are luxurious, rich and very moisturizing. They include skin-loving ingredients that are known to provide nourishment without leaving an overly greasy feel. They absorb well, quickly softens and replenishes dry, damaged skin. Perfect for male or female, during the colder months you should highly consider keeping some in your home. My four (4) year old can't keep her little fingers out of mine!
